Introducing Christchurch chiropractor, Dr Jonathan Roughan
Sporting pursuits throughout life has led me to appreciate the value of chiropractic care to remain competitive in athletics and hockey. My biggest sporting pursuits now are cycling and rock climbing. Although I have grown up with chiropractic all my life (being the son of a chiropractor) I am continually amazed by the impact it can have on someone’s health and well-being. I have experienced this first hand on so many occasions for myself. I completed my chiropractic studies at Macquarie University in Sydney where I was fortunate enough to meet my future wife, now Dr Brooke Roughan. Before studying in Sydney I spent a year working and travelling in Japan.
My involvement in various sports has driven me to specialise within chiropractic in sports performance and associated sporting injuries. I also run our in-house X-ray department, which provides instant diagnostic imaging facilities for those spinal traumas that require as full an analysis as possible, if we are to be fully effective. Being involved with cycling, hockey and particularly rock climbing I have encountered a few aches and pains. This lead to my interest in shoulders – their treatment and strengthening as well as learning about the huge role the spine plays in shoulder girdle function.
It’s great to be back home in Christchurch and to be part of the team at Roughan Chiropractic. Continuing my learning over the years ahead, from my peers, mentors, and you - my patients, is an ongoing focus for me in practice. Helping you, by removing nerve interference, and assisting in strengthening your spine, to achieve the goal of full health is my overall passion. Running at full health is about allowing you to pursue your favourite activities without being held back.
