Chiropractor Dr. Simon C. Roughan
Everyone thought I was crazy throwing in a career in Residential Psychiatric Care for Adolescents, when I sought the drug-free approach of Chiropractic. I wanted to belong to a profession that really helped people, a profession in fact which noninvasively liberates nerve interference. My training in psychology and psychiatric counselling was very rewarding. But the domineering influence of the pharmaceutical drug companies in sedating and tranquilising every patient caused me to question my ethical role in this health model.
I had been fortunate enough to have parents who took me to a chiropractor when I was aged fourteen, due to a rugby tackle injury which left me in acute low back pain. The only medical solution offered was bed-rest for six weeks. This wonderful man in Hawkes Bay explained what had happened to my vertebrae, and how the nerves were entrapped causing me severe back pain, but the nerve irritation was also causing irregularities in my bowel and waterworks too! He was so right. Yet I had never told him of these other symptoms. Once he had adjusted my spine and released the tight muscle spasms in my back, I was pain-free for the first time in several weeks! Then I noticed I no longer had the severe stomach pains, and no more of the urgency to relieve my bladder! This Wairarapa boy was eternally grateful for the wisdom that the hands of that chiropractor passed on, in true healing. No drugs, no potions. Just hands on health care. >>read more

Sporting pursuits throughout life has led me to appreciate the value of chiropractic care to remain competitive in athletics and hockey. My biggest sporting pursuits now are cycling and rock climbing. Although I have grown up with chiropractic all my life (being the son of a chiropractor) I am continually amazed by the impact it can have on someone’s health and well-being. I have experienced this first hand on so many occasions for myself. I completed my chiropractic studies at Macquarie University in Sydney where I was fortunate enough to meet my future wife, now Chiropractor Brooke Roughan. Before studying in Sydney I spent a year working and travelling in Japan. My involvement in various sports has driven me to specialise within chiropractic in sports performance and associated sporting injuries. >>read more

Chiropractor Dr. Brooke M. Roughan
Since the age of twelve I have had the fortune of receiving regular chiropractic care and have always found it to be a profoundly positive force in maintaining optimal health. It is now my great privilege to be part of this profession and to give back to you all the great benefits I have received. I am a chiropractor from Australia, but try not to hold that against me. I graduated from Macquarie University in Sydney and moved here to Christchurch just before Christmas of 2005. Since moving to Canterbury I married my fellow chiropractic student, now Chiropractor Jonathan Roughan, and started a family. My husband and I have both pursued post-graduate studies in functional neurology, which is known as Applied Kinesiology, a speciality in chiropractic. Our focus on healthy neurohormonal function, in this AK practice, leads me to treat many pregnancy cases, with very good outcomes. >>read more

Chiropractic Care has had such a positive and enhancing effect on my own health that it inspired me to change careers! I started my first career in health care 22 years ago, leaving Dublin, Ireland to study nursing in London. Later, I specialized in Intensive and Special Care of the newborn, then progressing to become a UK Health Visitor (Public Health). >>read more

Chiropractor Dr. Jesse T. Evans
Like the common misconception of most people, I linked Chiropractic solely with back pain at a young age, and nothing more. After multiple snowboarding, rugby, basketball….(any sport you can name – I played!) injuries, I was referred to a Chiropractor to help with my on going “back problems”. The Chiropractor was great, and indeed gave me the quick fix I needed, but never took the time to explain to me how Chiropractic worked, and what it was about, so I only went back when my “back went out”. When I realized how Chiropractic could not only minimize my back pain(s), but also assist my fellow athletes, I decided I wanted to be a Chiropractor. >>read more
